Strawberry Fields Forever

This is a song that onyrically takes you through the dream-like perspective of a person who's realized that people care way too much about mundane things.

Note that the song starts with "Let me take you down, cause i'm going to Strawberry Fields"
He's not taking you down to Strawberry Fields, he's taking you down, meaning taking you down a peg and getting you feeling low and blue (as in "i'm feeling down"), because he's going to Strawberry Fields.

Nothing is real, there are no really important things, it's all an illusion, a construct of our mind's attempt to make sense of it all and impose structure on events outside our control, There's really nothing to get hung about, because it's all strawberry fields forever.

Living is easy with eyes closed, if you obstinately refuse to see that it's all in the mind, if you refuse to see the real value of stuff, and making attributions and giving value to stuff that's really not worth all that much, misunderstanding all you see.

It's getting hard to be someone, to make a name for yourself, to make yourself feel and seem important in society, it's hard to be someone of note and importance, but you know what, it all works out either way.
It doesn't matter much to me, you know, all that running around trying to be someone.

No one i think is in my tree, not many people are with me on this or think the same way i do, because you can't have both, you can't care and not care, it must be high or low, you can't just tune in when you want to, you have to either know or not.

But it's alright if you don't. At least i think it's not too bad. Nothing really matters anyway.
So let me take you down, let me take your mind down, your expectations down, let me release you from that daily bustle, and just come with me to strawberry fields, because nothing is real, and there's really nothing to be hung up about, there's just endlessly stretching strawberry fields. It's all good, if you just learn to relax.

And i know you always think this is just me talking. Or rather, you sometimes think this is just me talking, there are moments where you do wonder if i'm right.
But you know what? I do know the difference between the rambling flow-of-thoughts that takes me down through these ideas, I know when it's a dream.
In all the confusion and absolute relativity of it all, all i can safely say is: i think that all these things i know, they mean a resounding "yes", it is all relative, it is all for show, you can let it down, you can not care that much.
But then again, it's all wrong, all of these things i'm saying could just be plain wrong.
But no, there's no right or wrong, you're not right and i'm not right. All i know is that i disagree with your worldview.

So let me take you down, cause i'm going down and i'm going to free-flow my thoughts, i'm going to listen to music and enjoy life and smoke drugs and release my mind, and go to that child-like fascination of the world, as if i'm just walking through endless fields of Strawberry Fields, just waiting to be picked, in immeasurable beauty, where nothing is real, and there's nothing to get hung up about.

from Wikipedia:
Strawberry Field was the name of a Salvation Army children's home just around the corner from Lennon's childhood home in Woolton, a suburb of Liverpool.[9] Lennon and his childhood friends Pete Shotton, Nigel Walley, and Ivan Vaughan used to play in the wooded garden behind the home.

  1. I love good lyrics. And these are as good as it gets. They made so many songs that resonate like a feeling of freedom from the fear that the grinding wheel puts into us all.

And nothing to get hung about....

    1. Lennon lyrics are often symbolic and convoluted, which makes them a challenge to interpret and dissect.
In fact, interpreting and dissecting Lennon's lyrics is an example of getting hung up on something and making attributions, a fact which amused Lennon to no end, as exhibited in the interpretation of Glass Onion.
